Executive Director Search

I am seeking community input to help shape my individual perspective during the search for the Port of Bellingham’s next Executive Director. The questions below invite you to share your experience with the Port, your views on leadership qualities and professional background, and your thoughts on the most important opportunities and challenges ahead. Your responses will inform the conversations I have with fellow Commissioners, staff, and community members.

This outreach reflects my personal effort to listen and learn and does not represent an official request on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. Please note, responses related to Port of Bellingham business may be subject to public disclosure under the Washington State Public Records Act, RCW 42.56.

Can you share a bit about how you or your organization works with or partners with the Port?

What leadership qualities and skills do you believe are essential for the next Executive Director to effectively address the diverse opportunities and challenges the Port faces?

What professional experience or background would best prepare someone to manage the Port’s responsibilities, projects, and stakeholder relationships?

Looking ahead, what do you see as the single most important challenge and/or opportunity that should be the top priority for the next Executive Director?
